TORS OF DARTMOOR
a database of both lesser- & well-known rocks and outcrops
Beadon RockA mostly overgrown but nonetheless impressive squat outcrop can be found in the trees above Beadon Lane. Whilst on private land, it is accessible from a track that leads to the Rock from the road where saplings have recently been planted. Noted by Tim Jenkinson in 2017, the main outcrop near the top of the woodland, which is by far the most significant, somewhat resembles the summit of Shap Tor in Bovey Country. Other outcrops extend to the south-west culminating in a smaller pile just above the aforementioned lane. A subsequent visit in June 2020, however, unfortunately revealed that what was once a fine view above the treeline from the main outcrop has now become inaccessible, overwhelmed by the saplings and bracken. It is still possible to view the huge vertical rock face from its foot, though this is about as good as it gets until hopefully, once the saplings have matured, the summit will be reachable again.
