Deal Copse SlabThis is an awesome, large granite slab which is located adjacent to the public footpath between the hamlet of Water and Houndtor Wood, passing through part of the Becky Falls Estate. In 2019, the Slab was accessible by paying the entrance fee for the Becky Falls attraction (please see here for the current prices) and walking a short distance west (by turning left) along the Blue Trail after crossing the footbridge by the cafe, but in 2023 this trail was found to have been diverted over the top of the Slab. The Slab sits in a clearing where there is ample space to admire its unusual, pointed top and slanted front face. Indeed, it is much more prominent than its nearby companion, Blue Trail Tor, which sits amid an overgrown section of the copse that conceals its stature. Being located away from any dense vegetation means that the Slab is not obscured during the summer months, something most woodland tors and rocks are plagued by. This section of the Estate is known as Deal Copse, a large area of ancient oak woodland in the Becka Brook valley, therefore the name given here seems the most appropriate.
