TORS OF DARTMOOR
a database of both lesser- & well-known rocks and outcrops
Fishlake RocksSet on the western edge of a bog called Fishlake Mire and east of the shallow saddle between Naker's and Green Hill, there is an interesting cluster of pale granite slabs that break up the monochrome of a rather featureless area that is typical of South Dartmoor. These unusual rocks while lowly form a conspicuous landmark from the neighbouring hills and immediately catch a walker's attention as a place of respite from the surrounding sodden ground. It is certainly surprising given the lack of prominent features in this area to see that there is no indication of these rocks on OS Maps. There are at least five main boulders here that are also noted for displaying closely-packed feldspar crystals that are seen glistening in the sun. Other outcrops and boulders can be found to the south at SX 64099 67840 on the slopes of Green Hill although these are less characteristic and are partly obscured by vegetation. We thank Jason Maddick for supplying both the name and location for Fishlake Rocks.
