TORS OF DARTMOOR

Little Vag Tor This grand little rockpile is set on the lower south west slope of Vag Hill about 50-60 metres above the River Dart. It consists of several huge boulders two of which form impressive overhangs resting on the edge of an embedded slab.  It is possible that Eric Hemery describes the tor on page 589 of the tome 'High Dartmoor', he writes "As Cumston Island comes into view, a rock outcrop, beetling and rugged, is seen to project from the underside of Vag Hill left, its clitter reaching the very river bank, has fanned out to strew rocks over a long stretch of riverside".  The tor is best approached from the footpath running south from Dartmeet where the northernmost outcrops are soon encountered by the track to the left, however the short climb to the upper rocks can be problematic especially in the summer months when the vegetation is high and that part of the tor is largely obscured by tall ferns and luxuriant bushes. From the summit here there is an unusual view along the Dart to the south with high on the hill to the right, Combestone Tor is silhouetted on the skyline.
