TORS OF DARTMOOR
a database of both lesser- & well-known rocks and outcrops
Netton Cleave West TorThis is quite a difficult tor to reach as it is set on a seriously steep slope at the far western edge of Netton Cleave Wood so is not for the faint hearted. Nowadays the tor is completely obscured by trees so cannot be seen from anywhere else but up close amid the shadowy rocks. Whilst the lower group is modest it is still quite attractive, but as the visitor ascends far more interesting outcrops emerge including the highlight near the summit, a sloping yet rather ragged moss clad rock face with splits and crevices. The terrain underfoot is problematic in places mainly because of the gradient and the perpetual half-light which plagues the site, especially in the summer months. Nobody seems to have described this tor until the visit of Max Piper and well-known Dartmoor Guide Paul Rendell in December 2019.
