Picket Rock

Picke Rock

The Picket or 'Picke' Rock as it is sometimes known is a large rounded boulder on the north-west slopes of Great Staple Tor.

It marks the boundary, with other stones in the area, between the parishes of Peter Tavy and Whitchurch in West Devon. The rock is inscribed on two sides with a 'P' and a 'W' to represent this.

Dave Brewer (2002) describes the rock in 'Dartmoor Boundary Markers'; "The line then bends north-eastward to a Boundary Rock near Beckamoor Head at SX 5345 7595 called Flat Rock or Black Rock bearing the letters 'P' and 'W' on the appropriate sides of its flat top. It then turns more east-north-east to Picke Rock another natural boundary rock similarly inscribed and passes between Great Staple and Roos Tors."
